The Library in your browser
Below you will find several ways to enhance your browser with direct visiblity and access to the CMB resources and services.
We focus on Firefox and Internet Explorer, because they are both supported by the RUG.
We advice to use Firefox because it is more flexible and adjustable for individual users.
TOOLBARS
- the Library toolbars: QuickSearch CMB Toolbar, CMBStudent Toolbar
This powerful Toolbar can be installed easily in your browser and offers direct search in the licenced databases, off-campus access to electronic resources and services plus all kinds of News from the Library and UMCG.

- the personal toolbar: Google Toolbar with Library Buttons and Search Gadgets
Are you using the Google Toolbar already? It can serve very well as "personal" toolbar for search and news.
The Google Toolbar let's you add your favorite search engines or databases to the toolbar. This however only works in some cases, and certainly not for all licenced resources. That's why we offer Google Toolbar buttons for library search and news resources.
SEARCH BOXES
For spots where you can not install a (library) toolbar, "widgets" are available that can be embedded in many websites, blogs and platforms. The CMB uses widgetbox.com and eco.netvibes.com to create and distribute the widgets

SEARCH PLUGINS
Take Control over your Search Box in Your Browser. See the available Plugins.
With a few simple clicks you can add your favourite library databases as a search option to your browser.
This allows you you to :
- do a direct search from your internet browser search box,
- without having to go to the database or search enigine first!
- not worry about your access to the Digital Library access from off-campus.
